The Hudson Highlands are comprised of mountainous areas on both sides of the Hudson River. The Highlands have played a significant role in New York and America’s military, cultural, and environmental history. To the East of the Hudson, lies the Hudson Highlands State Park; a non-contiguous park area that runs from Peekskill to Beacon. The Highlands also extend slightly to the West side of the Hudson, into Northern Harriman, and as far North as Cornwall-on-Hudson. Abandoned mines, quarries, and farms spot the area, as well as panoramic views of the river and mountains. Better known hikes in the area are Breakneck Ridge and Beacon Mountain, but the Highlands have so much more to offer.
